Path of Exile Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can provide extra damage, AD or even affixes.
Often times however upgraded Common and Magic gear is often surpassed by Rare-grade gear due to their high requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They boost the performance of the item they are connected to. Armor upgrades are available in the world of the game and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged by using a specialist or higher salvage kit to retrieve upgrades from the items.
The amount of damage that an armored item or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the extent of its upgrades. A piece of armor upgraded to the highest upgrade level will boost its ability to absorb damage. However, it's important note that this will also raise its weight, requiring it to weigh more than before.
There are a variety of armor upgrades available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. For instance, some upgrades will grant the armor a certain number of additional health points, while others make it lighter and stronger. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade that an item will receive, as shown below.
Some of the upgrades also require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, which are identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Furthermore, some upgrades require a charge to use, which is identified by the "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges for these upgrades are updated daily or never expire depending on the upgrade.
Iron Ore is the cheapest option to improve your armor. You can find it by exploring and looting small treasure chests. Titanium is more expensive however, it is available in the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to high level armor pieces. These upgrades can give significant improvements in performance and are worth the investment, particularly for one-handed weapons.

The process of upgrading an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will significantly increase its defense values however, the user must be aware that putting more weight on it will drastically reduce its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor past +9. The added defense usually isn't worth the weight and power costs of the upgrades.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of specific aspects of the weapon. For example, an upgrade may increase the damage dealt by shotgun shells or the accuracy of the sniper rifle. Certain firearms have upgrades that enhance their inherent capabilities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and reduces the risk of weapon overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases projectile acceleration for more damage).
item upgrades of upgrades to weapons require a whetblade. It's one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. These can be obtained by completing side quests or by killing a certain number of monsters and bosses.
To upgrade the weapon, equipment set piece, or Whetblade You must go to the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a specific amount of Bars. The more bars needed to complete an upgrade the more advanced the level. If you have multiple upgrade materials, the cost of upgrading will be lower.
In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed. In the past you could go to an Upgrade Bench and pay a certain amount of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to a higher rarity. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level and at that point, the upgrades would be reset.
It's still possible, but it depends heavily on RNG. You should consider buying equipment with minimal upgrade levels but with high base scores and stat distributions. They will also have a better chance of bringing you the highest tier perks and blessings.
The majority of players will prioritize weapon upgrades for the weapons they most often use to allow them to progress faster. Additionally item upgrades , they should also consider upgrading the weapons they use with their teammates to increase their power and effective. item upgrader for instance should upgrade his M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more useful when accompanied with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are used in the sockets of armor and weapons, enhancing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is the process of making them, in which you combine the gemstone with specific reagents on a table. The higher the grade of the gemstone has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents can be gotten from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or through collecting Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.
The Jeweler can boost the quality of a gem in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Based on the tier of the gem it can provide different stat boosts when inserted into weapons, gear and jewelry.
All levels of jewels can be made at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a certain level to be able to get them. Jewels can be replaced with another jewel without destroying the original. You are able to replace the jewel once within an item of equipment.
It is normal to use more jewels for aesthetic reasons. The jewels can also enhance performance and make a surface harder than steel so that repeated friction caused by pivots does not cause damage to them.
A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the appearance of your shields and weapons. These glyphs offer a small boost and can be freely traded, but they are not guaranteed to be available as loot. Glyphs, like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler to exchange Scattered Crystals and gold. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like traits and aegis cannot be swapped out, and can only be retrieved using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets can give your character a variety of small, but valuable, advantages. You can find them in the starter area as loot or personal story rewards. They can also be obtained from vendors and by completing road interaction. They may also be crafted by jewelers, and found or purchased at the Trading Post.
The first trinkets that a player is able to unlock is the cloak. It grants a small, but valuable boost to speed of movement and the ability to escape. After that, they'll be able to get amulets, rings, and necklaces in a similar manner to the way a player acquires armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment has an upgrade slot which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be put into any type of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and is only compatible with specific types of trinkets.
These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't fighting. This lets a hero be more efficient while inactive. It can also make up for the lack of a excellent team or talent tree slots which would normally be filled by the hero's optimal stats.
In general trinket upgrades should be a priority BiS (Best in Slot) items you won't replace anytime soon. Also, consider items with desirable statistics that are less significant than the iLevel for the item to be upgraded. This is particularly true if an item has multiple stats you'd like to upgrade, as it's usually more beneficial to upgrade one important stat than two sub-optimal ones.
In the beginning of the game players in the jungle are likely to upgrade their trinket into a red one, while top and middle players usually choose the pink or green ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have a major impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.
In addition to the items mentioned above, players will find other trinkets in the form trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be earned by completing certain milestones within the story. For example, completing the main quest for a chapter or beating the boss. You can see them by clicking on the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
